BABY GATOR
A baby alligator seems to be living the life as it catches some rays at a small pond in the Florida Everglades. The reality of life as a baby alligator is far different than what this photograph would suggest. Fully grown the American Alligator is considered the apex predator of the Florida Everglades. For baby alligators the road to adulthood is filled with peril as they can fall prey to large birds, other alligators, large turtles, and other predators. The mother alligator will guard her young ferociously for a year or more but only a handful of babies from a given nest will reach adulthood.
My name is Mark Andrew Thomas and I'm a photographer and filmmaker currently residing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I grew up in Florida right next to the Everglades and although I photograph a wide variety of subjects and locations, the Florida Everglades will always be my first love.
