Description
OLD SHELDON CHURCH RUINS
The Old Sheldon Church glows underneath the the Milky Way as satellites streak across the night sky. The Old Sheldon Church is located in rural South Carolina off an even more rural country road in the middle of the woods. In 1757 the Prince William Parish Church, as it was known then, opened it's doors for it's first service. What is so amazing about this structure is that it has survived for almost three centuries and was witness to much of our history.
The church also survived being set on fire during the Revolutionary War and then rebuilt from the walls that were still standing back in 1826. It was set on fire a second time in 1865 by Sherman's troops. It was never rebuilt after that but it's walls still remain.
This photo was taken in complete darkness with the help of a flashlight which was used to paint the church using over 25 exposures which were then reassembled in photoshop. I had a friend with me and we also discovered an old cemetery in back with some of the headstones dating back over 200 years!
