Description
DWARF CYPRESS FAMILY
While driving through Everglades National Park one day this bank of trees immediately caught my eye. It looked to me like a family holding hands so I pulled over to get this shot in the Dwarf Cypress Forest. Cypress trees can be found throughout Everglades National Park and the Southeastern United States and can survive in standing water areas.
Cypress trees can be found in three distinct formations depending on the elevation and ground water levels. In some areas they can be found growing in the shape of a dome with larger trees in the middle and smaller ones around the outside. Other can be found growing in what is called a Cypress Strand where the trees grow parallel with the flow of water. Dwarf Cypress Trees such as are stunted and grow in areas with less favorable conditions on drier land.
