Description
A NIGHT AT OLD SHELDON CHURCH
An uncropped version of "Old Sheldon Church Ruins" which shows more of the beautiful night sky and stars. I truly love this place and at night, even though it's quite spooky, the stars are some of the brightest I've seen. The Old Sheldon Church is located in Yemmassee, South Carolina off a tree lined country road in the middle of the woods. The Old Sheldon Church held it's first service in 1757 It's amazing to think that this structure has been around for almost three centuries and has been a witness to much of America's history.
The church was set on fire during the Revolutionary War and then rebuilt from what was left standing, basically the walls, in 1826. It was set on fire a second time in 1865 by Sherman's troops. It was never rebuilt after that but it's walls still remain intact. Behind the church is an old cemetery with some of the headstones dating back hundreds of years.
This was photographed in pitch darkness with a light painting technique that uses several different exposures to paint the structure and surrounding areas step by step. The resulting image is achieved by combining all the different exposures together.
